Dr. Qureshi is currently involved in multiple research projects that investigate various aspects of social value creation through social entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology for Sustainable Development (ICTSD). His intrinsic motivation to contribute to society in general and to the poor, marginalized and disadvantaged communities in particular inspired him to understand sustainability and pressing social issues from theoretical and practical viewpoints. He started with media habits of new generation and then dealt at length with changes in technology which has brought new challenges to the new age marketer. He also referred to leapfrogging by the rural India and dealt at length the importance of mobile as a medium for media dark India. He also made specific mention of digital prime time and elaborated how today media is bought by specialized agencies and not by an advertiser directly.
He then presented some specific case studies when he was with Mondolez. He emphasized that digital is the future and that consumer has power to praise or punish a marketer. As a result , a marketer needs to have a 360 degrees view of what is happening in the market.

He has 18 years of experience in the field of sales which is the starting and tipping point in the careers of young & ignited minds. A graduate from IIT Kharagpur & post-graduate from IIM Lucknow, Mr. Khosla shared his corporate experience in selling and achieving desired target. Mr. Rajiv Khosla started the presentation quoting "Distribution is King" and elaborated on it saying that the Indian system is diverse, complex and ambiguous.

He started by defining Fundamental analysis. He said it attempts to predict intrinsic value of a stock with a major belief that "earnings drive stock prices" at least in shorter run.
The objective of such analysis if to produce a value that investors can compare with the current market price and this can be done using two methods: Top down method, and Bottom Up method.

He discussed the basic concepts of personal income tax like the definitions of an Assessee, Previous year, Assessment Year, different heads of income for taxation purpose, components of salary, computation of taxable income, exemptions in respect of HRA, Medical Allowance, Transport allowance etc. and deductions under section 80 C, 80 D, 80 E and 80 TTA, Income/loss on house property u/s 24 for both SOP and LOP etc., computation of net taxable income and then calculation of tax payable including education cess and surcharge (where applicable) etc.

Mr.Pradeep Kashyap, the father of rural India and CEO, Mart started his guest lecture with motivational words for all the student managers and he said that, one should always realise that he or she is unique and no one else is like you. He further continued by saying that one should remain authentic and should not even try to copy your role model.
He said that, he discovered his purpose at the age of 40, which was to serve the poor and one may do things that seem to be extraordinary but the fact is that, they are only the ordinary people with definite purpose.

Mr. Prasad started off by enlightening the audience on how direct selling as a medium of lead generation has evolved over the years. He emphasized the power of social media as a major driver of B2B interactions on the web. He pointed out that with the arrival of Google in 1998, B2B companies started to focus on search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and email marketing to drive traffic to their website. They also created content such as whitepapers and webinars to convert traffic into leads. Moving forward, he defined the sales process. He shed some light on the basic techniques of lead generation and prospecting. He explained the sales process with the help of two key concepts: AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) and SPANCO (Suspect, Prospect, Approach, Negotiate and Close order).

The session started on the note of liberalisation in India by then Prime Minister Dr.P V Narasimha Rao and finance minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, due to the crisis of October 1991 (diminished forex reserves). The liberalisation came with challenges such as terrorism, cyber crime (want of robust Management Information System), threat to small scale industries, etc. Also, the difference of role of the central bank, in this case the RBI, was discussed. Initially, in the old economy, RBI told other banks how to run the business. Post liberalisation, it has donned a regulatory role rather than an inspective role.

He finally concluded stating that one's values and character are the most important aspect in one's life. He emphasized the value of hardwork and integrity. He explained the relationship between Variance Analysis and Management Control by giving conceptual explanation about several key terms used in banking industry. He discussed details of processes adopted by his company to carry out variance analysis and reporting. The class ended with some interesting Q&A interactions.

Aditya started his class by holding a brief discussion with the class about 'what is strategy'? He then discussed how the standard tools of strategy formulation and implementation do not serve the needs of a start-up as it does not have a very formal structure. Aditya gave several examples from e-commerce space including Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon to explain the concept of pivoting for a start-up. He shared his experience of strategy formulation at Xperqz and talked about the usefulness of formal models of strategy which were taught to him (at XLRI ) during his MBA program. He discussed these with the students and also encouraged them to come up with solutions or an approach to decode these issues. He also talked about his educational journey and how he has followed his passion throughout life, be it life sciences, psychology, filmmaking or business. Having achieved so much through his career life from Crisil to Morgan Stanley, he gave highlights about why sometimes Credit Ratings fail and how investor perceptions are guided by Credit Ratings. Throughout his lecture, he made sure that we weren't disinterested by ppts and all his valuable insights were of his own experiences. He also gave us tips on how to prepare ourselves when it comes to interviews and the kind of answers expected by corporates. It was an absolute pleasure listening to him and having him lecture us about a successful financial career.

Mr. Parag Wasnik, Business Unit Manager, Hindustan Field Services Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Hindustan Unilever, addressed students of 2 sections of the Sales & Distribution Management Course on August 2, 2014.
The lecture focused on managing distributors for consumer durable goods. Mr. Wasnik stressed on the difficulties in selling water purifiers in the Indian market where affordability is a factor. The Indian consumers mindset is such that water purifiers are not very high on the purchase priority list. Under these circumstances conveying the benefits of the product is difficult and selling is a challenge. He gave examples of motivating the sales force by offering high commissions, as well as, trips to exotic destinations for high performers. According to him, salespeople were highly motivated in companies like Eureka Forbes, even though the basic salary is very low, because of such incentives.

Mr. Tripathi has vast experience in the investment field. Behind the doors of stock investment, lies a world where taking risk is mandatory. The first steps in investment have to be taken cautiously and this insightful session by Mr. Tripathi helped the student managers who have opted for the Investment Management Course taught by Prof. J.S Matharu.

According to the speaker, every company is governed by two aspects - tangible and intangible. The former is the hard aspect and latter is the soft. The tangible aspects consist of the book value, which is visible in account books. The book value in turn consists of technology, machinery and all other physical entities related with an industry. The intangibles on the other hand are the ones which are not visible in account books. The intangibles consist of reputation of the company, culture practiced by the company, it's brand image and talent management. The lecture mainly focused on importance of intangible or the soft aspects of a company. According to the speaker, the intangibles are something which cannot be copied by the competitors. As a result, the intangibles give the company a competitive edge in the market. To highlight this aspect, he quoted examples of 'Google', 'Southwest Airlines' and Starbucks'. The speaker also quoted the example of 'Ranbaxy' to highlight how absence of culture led to its downfall.

Mr. Khadual provided us insights on what basically projects are and why they are financed by banks. Concepts like asset transformation and financial intermediation by banks were also covered.

1. IMTN: Sir, we have seen that times have changed. Previously teaching was conducted using chalk and blackboard and now usage of presentations prevail. How has IVEY business school changed the way it conducts classes?
A.K.: There is nothing more effective in teaching than the chalk and blackboard. Power point presentations actually interrupt the interaction between faculty and students. So, I think how we conducted classes 5000 years ago, where you had just the teacher and the students, that was real teaching. In fact even now that is the kind of teaching that IVEY supports. In most of our classes at IVEY we use discussions, predominantly, about real companies with our students. So that way the discussion is direct eye to eye. 1. Sir, you had been part of the Telecom Sector, recently there was an upper limit set on the number of messages that could be sent, what other alternatives your firm is following to cope up with it?
It actually helps us, TRAI has a registration process, and we call it as telemarketers. We go through a process of registration, and we confirm it to TRAI regulations. We also participate in the process of TRAI formulating those regulations. The way we send a SMS is different from peer to peer SMS. It goes via different handshake protocol. It goes via a switch. How did you find the campus?
I found the campus to be very good, a lot of greenery, it is a great campus, the students look quite energetic and enthusiastic. Loved it!

Taking a leaf out of zealous woman entrepreneur's POTHI
It was indeed a special occasion for IMT Nagpur when Miss Jaya Jha, a budding female entrepreneur-owner of POTHI.COM, an online book publishing website, came over to the campus to deliver a guest lecture on services marketing.
With a strong zeal in her heart for entrepreneurship right from college days, Ms. Jaya took a daunting step by leaving Google and entering into a business of her own. "The concept was built upon the basic need to get a book published at a cheaper cost and a hassle free manner" says Ms Jaya. On being asked about the infrastructure and student quality of IMT, she was quick to respond. She mentioned that the infrastructure was beautiful and the students involved themselves into discussion which was encouraging for any lecture.
The message which she gave for the student managers of IMT Nagpur was "No entrepreneur dies hungry. In the initial stages there might be setbacks but statistics shows that success stories are far bigger in number than failures. Risk it and try when you are young as you have fewer responsibilities at a young age."
