Shri Mahendra Nath Memorial Lecture at IMT, Nagpur
The Institute of Management Technology, Nagpur commemorates Shri Mahendra Nath, founder of the institute through a Memorial Lecture on 11th September 2015 by Dr. Kirit S. Parikh, a renowned academician and Padma-Bhushan awardee.
Dr. Parikh has long been associated with policy making with the Government of India. He was the Senior Economic Advisor to Administrator, UNDP, New York during the year 1997-98. He was a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Ministers Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Shri P. V. Narashimha Rao, Shri V. P. Singh, Shri Chandrashekhar and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the period 1988-2004. He was the Chairman of the Expert Group on "A Low Carbon Strategy for Inclusive Growth", set up by Planning Commission, Govt. of India and Chairman, Expert Group on "A Viable and Sustainable System of Pricing of Petroleum Products" Ministry of Petroleum, Govt of India.
The event started with the lighting of the inaugural lamp by the chief guest Dr. Parikh, Dr. Subhajit Bhattacharyya, the director of IMT Nagpur and Dr. Rajnandan Patnaik, the Associate Dean.
The students of the institute rendered a soulful Saraswati Vandana. The director of IMT-N, Dr. Subhajit Bhattacharya spoke about the achievements and enlightened everyone present about the vision of Shri Mahendra Nath. Dr. Parikh elucidated on the Indian Government's spending and focused on how it can improve its conditions on global emissions. He emphasized the need of doubling the government expenditure on important issues like portable water, sanitation and education. He also spoke about the potential of hydropower in India and hindrances like resettlement, supercritical power plants and the high level of efficiency that can help reduce pollution. He concluded by saying, "The GDP of India may grow steadily when we focus on education and health needs of India".
Eleven students of the Batch of 2014-16 were awarded merit scholarships and eight students were awarded with merit cum means scholarship for academic excellence in their respective fields.
